“With funding from Wades Charity, Hyde Park Unity Day was able to continue its mission to:-
- unite the community and provide an opportunity to highlight the positive aspects of living, working, and studying in Hyde Park.
- demonstrate communities’ strength through voluntary involvement.
- celebrate cultural diversity through art, music and performance
- create a focus point for community activities
- unite and provide opportunities to showcase skills, talent and nature of local people and artists.
Initiated by the Hyde Park Residents Association in 1995, Hyde Park Unity Day celebrated its 13th year with a showcase that celebrated the diverse talents within the local community. The Unity Day team (all volunteers) in the spirit of Unity Day catered for all.
The 10,000 visitors enjoyed a free event that began at noon and continued for a further eleven hours. With twenty areas of activities covering the park, eleven hours seemed not long enough for some. ….. Including volunteers/voluntary groups/artists and individuals we estimate we have seen well over five hundred people somehow contribute to Hyde Park Unity Day 2008. A testament to the reputation Hyde Park Unity Day has among the Hyde Park community and throughout Leeds.”
