 Leeds Children's Holiday Camp Association

“Leeds Children's Holiday Camp Association received a grant from Wade's Charity during 2008 for which the Trustees were extremely grateful.

Leeds Children's Holiday Camp Association is a registered charity that was founded to provide free holidays for disadvantaged children of Leeds aged 7 to 11 years. The charity provided 300 free places during 2008, and 297 children enjoyed a residential holiday by the sea at Silverdale Holiday Centre which overlooks Morecambe Bay.

The staff at Silverdale Holiday Centre organise indoor and outdoor activities to enable the children to develop confidence and self-esteem, lasting friendships with children from other areas, and to develop personal, interpersonal and communication skills. The Centre has many facilities that the children enjoy, for example, a small heated swimming pool, trampoline, bicycles, go-carts, large outdoor games, and sports grounds where ball games and other sports can take place.

The receipt of the Wade's Grant has enabled the charity to maintain and replace toys, games and equipment for use by all the children during the 2008 holiday season.

It is essential that everything used by the children is regularly checked and replaced when required to ensure that no child is disappointed.

The grant has also enabled the charity to ensure that every child can be provided with pocket money where this cannot be provided by families. The charity's policy is that every child should be treated equally without any kind of discrimination, and this includes ensuring that they all have the same amount of money to spend on treats for themselves. The shortfall is always met by the charity and this has been helped during the 2008 season by the receipt of the Wade's grant.

The Trustees are very grateful for the very generous award from Ward's Charity, and I can confirm that the money has been used to provide equipment for the children at Silverdale and to subsidise pocket money for children whose families were unable to provide money for them to spend. “
