How To Apply

Making A Difference
Trustees are committed to ensuring that the grants they award make a real difference to the people and organisations they support. Applicants must demonstrate how any grant awarded will achieve this.

GUIDELINES FOR APPLICANTS
General guidelines for projects we can support:
  • New projects starting up which can demonstrate that they will provide an effective response to real needs
  • Youth clubs receive a specific mention in Wade’s Scheme and we are committed to their continued support
  • Non-discrimination - Trustees ensure that fairness in funding is maintained and equal opportunities are observed.  Disabled, disadvantaged and multi-cultural groups continue to be assisted
  • Match funding - Trustees may authorise grants on the basis that the applicant matches the grant or finds the balance elsewhere, this is particularly pertinent to applicants seeking large sums for capital projects
  • Local causes - Trustees prefer to support local charities, the objective remains to ensure that the Charity's limited resources are used effectively for local projects
  • Holiday schemes continue to be supported in keeping with the general recreational nature of the charity’s objects.
Guidelines for projects which we are unable to support
  • Applications from outside the beneficial area
  • Applications from non-charitable organisations
  • Applications from individuals
  • Applications for church repairs (unless there is proven significant community use)
  • Circulars or general appeals from high profile national charities
  • Applications which do not offer benefit within the terms of the Trust
  • Applications for activities which are the responsibility of statutory or local authority funding, particularly within health or education
  • Applications to fund salaries or core costs

Repeat Funding

Whilst the Trustees take a flexible approach when applications are submitted by an organisation in consecutive years, they do not encourage such applications if there is a danger that the organisation concerned will become over dependent upon the Charity. The majority of grants are given on a "one-off" basis, longer term funding is not our normal practice. Applicants may submit an application no more than once per calendar year.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

If your application potentially fulfils at least one of our primary charitable objectives we will write and tell you. You will be given a grant reference number and we will make an appointment for our Grants Adviser to visit your organisation to establish further relevant information about the application.

The application will then be considered by the board of Trustees at one of their Grants' Meetings, these are usually held in April, July and November. Applications received 4 weeks before a meeting date are usually considered at that meeting, applications received less than 4 weeks before a meeting will be considered at the next available meeting - so please apply early. Grants will not be awarded for projects that have already taken place.

All applicants will be notified in writing of the Trustees’ decision which is final.

All successful applicants will be asked to submit a written report on the use of the grant for consideration at the next appropriate Trustees meeting.  Follow up visits may be made to some applicants. Submitting a report within the required time frame is crucial to the success of any future applications.

If your application does not fulfil either of our charitable objectives we will write and tell you.
